Report: At Least 17% of Valley Youth Jobless, Not Enrolled in School

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — As many as 17%of youth in the Central Valley have no job, and are not enrolled in school.

That’s according to a new Fresno State report, which looks at youth between 16 and 24.

The figure is more than double the state average of just over 8%.

Researchers say high levels of youth disconnection from school and employment in the valley, are driven largely by the current economic climate of the region.

The statistics suggest that young adults will remain constrained for awhile.
