FPPC Proposes New Rules to Crackdown on Illegal Coordination

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The California Fair Political Practices Commission has proposed new rules, in an effort to ensure that no campaigns gain unfair advantage, by illegally coordinating with outside groups.

Independent committees would not be allowed to use the same consultant, and groups could not be run by a former staffer for the candidate, or be funded by a candidate’s family member.

However, those skeptical of the proposal say it might merely shift more of the fundraising to candidates and parties.
