FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Governor Jerry Brown has approved a bill, mandating that California students take sexual education courses, unless parents explicitly have them exempted.
Most districts currently offer such courses, but participation is voluntary. The new law changes that, stating students may only opt out with the permission of a parent.
Students may also learn about mass deportations to Mexico during the Great Depression, under another bill signed by Brown, which instructs the State Board of Education to consider the topic, when devising history curriculum.
