In a letter to President Obama Thursday, 42 Senators have asked the president to make biotech approval process a priority in his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping(Zhe JIN-PING), according to the Hagstrom Report.
The group of senators are led by Senate Agriculture Committee ranking member Debbie Stabenow of Michigan and South Dakota Republican Senator John Thune.
The Chinese president was scheduled to meet with President Obama yet this week.
The U.S. is also hosting China in the inaugural U.S.-China Strategic Agricultural Innovation Dialogue, during which it’s expected agricultural biotech issues will be discussed.
The senators wrote, “We ask that you seek a commitment from President Xi to move forward with the queue of biotechnology products, including those awaiting final import approvals.”
