A group of McDonald’s shareholders want’s the fast food chain to source meat from animals that are not raised with antibiotics vital to fighting human infections.
Reuters reports the move comes from the Congregation of Benedictine Sisters of Boerne, Texas.
The same group withdrew a similar resolution in March after McDonald’s announced it would phase out chickens produced with antibiotics important to human health.
However, while withdrawing the original resolution, the group has concerns about pork and beef supplies.
A group spokesperson said “this double standard makes no sense to us.”
The group is pressing McDonald’s to include beef and pork in its antibiotic policy and to do so on a global scale.
