FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — For the last 15 years, near-zero emissions vehicles have been exempt from smog checks.
However, that free ride is coming to an end, now that the State of California has proper testing equipment.
Owners of older hybrids are receiving letters, indicating that they’ll need to get their vehicle tested.
Experts say while they’re often cleaner, the cars experience the same wear-and-tear that occurs in traditional engines, which can cause pollution.
