Feeding Evacuated Horses From Rough Fire

ALFALFA

Evacuations from the Rough Fire have been affecting not only humans but here in the Valley Ag country, livestock as well.

One valley horseman is working hard — keeping horses safe.

When the Rough Fire hit, Guy Adams took on the duties of helping care for with dozens of horses that have been evacuated.

Normally Adams runs The Heart of the Horse Therapy Ranch in Clovis, to help anyone with special needs to heal with horse therapy, but now, with dozens of people evacuating, Adams is helping out in a whole new way – taking care of horses that with their owners had to leave their homes,, quickly:

“We’ve actually been feeding over 40 horses from Sanger, Squaw Valley and the Clovis area, at different rescues right now. We’re accepting feed at Clovis Feed, we’re accepting feed at different feed stores like Sanger feed, Longhorn, Clovis Feed and The Hay Company.”

There are horses at the Verde View Farms, Clovis Rodeo Grounds and Squaw Valley Rodeo Grounds.

Adams says they need alfalfa – and there is an account set up at “The Hay Company” and Adams asks that people wishing to donate call in a credit rather than driving it out…..reserve alfalfa for Heart of the Horse Therapy. 559-251-2981.

Evacuees are advised to also write their phone number with a sharpie on their horse’s hooves, neck and sides to help rescuers re-unite it faster is it gets loose while evacuating.

Drivers are advised to watch out for loose horses or animals in the mountain areas affected by fire.
