FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The San Francisco jail will begin training staff members and inmates, in preparation for transgender inmates to participate with other women in drug and alcohol abuse education programs, and women’s empowerment groups.
The county presently houses transgender inmates in their own unit for security reasons.
The move is said to be a first step toward fully integrating all transgender inmates into the general jail population.
However, the union says deputies are already concerned.
