FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The California Assembly has approved a measure, which aims to help immigrant victims of crime avoid being detained or deported.
Law enforcement would have to sign certifications for such immigrants, who’ve been helpful in investigating crimes such as human trafficking, rape, and sexual assault.
The victims would then be able to apply for a federal U-Visa.
The legislation is headed to the desk of Governor Jerry Brown.
