(FRESNO, CA) – City of Fresno drops 28% in august water consumption, and overall reduction in consumption remains higher than state mandate.
The City of Fresno’s Department of Public Utilities (DPU) officially reported water production totals for August 2015, showing a 28% drop in usage from the same month in 2013.
“This is a perfect example of the challenge Fresno faces in meeting the state’s water conservation mandate. It was a very hot August and it affected our ability to save water.” – Thomas Esqueda, Director of Public Utilities for the City of Fresno.
This follows a reduction in water consumption of 31% for the month of July 2015 and 30% for the month of June of this year compared to the same months in 2013.
While the August total just met the state-mandated goal of 28% reduction, the continued overall decline in water usage for the months of June, July, and August stands at 29.6%, which is above the cutbacks in water use set by the State Water Resources Control Board earlier this year.
Total monthly water production for August 2015, the third month in the State’s evaluation period for its mandatory conservation targets, totaled 4,171,891,000 gallons, down from August 2013, when Fresno’s water production totaled 5,756,164,000 gallons.
“Our customers have been extremely cooperative, but the numbers prove that we can’t let up if we want to reach our goal of reducing water consumption in the community by 28 percent through February 2016.” – Thomas Esqueda, Dir. City of Fresno, PU.
