FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The improving economy has created an unprecedented slowdown from one end of the Golden State to the other, causing drivers to become some of the nation’s most stressed.

According to the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, California drivers spend nearly 2 work weeks a year stuck in traffic; that’s nearly double the national average.

Researchers estimate a waste of $160 billion a year, in fuel, income, and time.

The worst area is Washington D.C., but California isn’t much better, and the study says it’s likely to get worse.
