President Joseph Castro shares plans for a new student center at Fresno State.

During his “State of the Campus” address, he announced plans in the works for the new center, that would be partly for students and partly for faculty with a shared space for both.

“We’re working right now with one of the top architectural firms in the nation.” – President Joseph Castro.

The current campus center was built for a smaller population of students but with attendance growing – a record number of students his year – Castro says it’s time: “We’re coming up with some concepts and designs and we are going to share those with our community.”

KMJ Liz Kern: “What do you think of that?

Student John Styler: “I think it will be fantastic. Right now, usually people just meet around the library that’s about the center of the campus and people just congregate there without too much to do, so there’s the Bucket but usually people only 21 and older go there. somewhere where you can get beer and things like that, but something for everyone to participate in would be fantastic.”

“My hope is that by January we’ll have a solid plan in place for the building itself and a business plan to go along with it.” – President Joseph Castro.

Private and campus funds and student fees would pay for the center.
