FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — There’s no question the Golden State’s farmers and urban areas have been forced to make some tough moves, amid the severe lack of water.

It’s been rough, but according to the Public Policy Institute, it’s been even more difficult in the poor rural communities.

Wells have run dry in those areas, like East Porterville, and researchers say the problem could get worse in the next couple of years.

The institute recommends that the state increase assistance to rural areas, as wells are unlikely to return to their normal state, even if we get substantial rain.
