FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — California Democrats have reintroduced the End of Life Option Act, which would permit physician-assisted suicide.

Assemblyman Mark Stone is among a coalition inspired by Brittany Maynard, a young woman who chose physician-assisted suicide in Oregon, after being diagnosed with cancer.

Stone says, “There are points in our history in California, when we come across an issue that is so compelling, that is so ripe for resolution. This, is clearly one of those issues. There is no dignity in suffering; but there is dignity in the options that we give people, in how they manage their end of life process.”

Two recent Superior Court rulings state that it’s the job of the legislature, to overturn California’s 141-year ban on aid-in-dying.
