The Rough Fire has grown to more than 16,000 acres and is 0% contained.
The National Parks Service says most of the fire’s growth has been on the western and southern flanks. It has not crossed the South Fork of the Kings River, however it is approaching the river below Highway 180.
At the recommendation of the Fire’s Incident Management Team, Kings Canyon National Park issued a mandatory evacuation of Cedar Grove. It is a popular camping area and staging point for wilderness backpack and stock trips. Approximately 320 campsites, a twenty-room lodge and restaurant, campground store, and a pack station will be temporarily closed.
And the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, who is working closely with the U.S. Forest Service to monitor the activity of the Rough Fire, has issued a road closure. Highway 180 is currently closed to eastbound traffic at the intersection of Highway 180 and the Hume Lake turnoff. It will remain closed until authorities determine it is safe to reopen.
