Historic Preservation Project Seeks 13,000 Stars

ANDERSON

The National Park Service is sponsoring a special ceremony to remember and commemorate the lives of young soldiers killed in the civil war.

It’s the 150th anniversary of a particularly grim chapter during the Civil War.

13,000 prisoners in Georgia’s Andersonville prison – many of them boys – died there over a 14-month period.

The National Park Service hopes to collect 13,000 stars from around the United States to remember their lives lost.

Karana Hattersley-Drayton, Historic Preservation Project Manager from the City of Fresno says she would like to see some of the stars be submitted by school children in our city.

Anyone can participate…not just school children.

If you want to participate, please prepare your star using their template – call the number below for details.

Send it or bring it in to the Historic Preservation Commission on August 24th, 2015, and they will forward them on as a packet from Fresno to the NPS.
