Kern County Sheriff’s deputies enter their ninth day in search for the suspect believed to be hiding in the Kelso Valley area.

According to Ray Pruitt with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, crews will continue their search in a 5 square mile radius in the Jawbone Canyon area.

Deputies still do not know the identity of the man who they believe held three young men at gunpoint at a rural Kern County cabin.

Investigators also believe he killed another man at a different cabin and shot a pair of SWAT deputies who were part of the suspect search over the weekend.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office has released a sketch of the suspect (pictured above).

The murder victim has been identified as 64-year-old Dr. David Markiewitz, a retired dentist. He was found shot to death July 30 at a home on Jawbone Canyon Road in Weldon.

The foot and air search now includes law enforcement personnel from 13 agencies, including some from Los Angeles and Orange County.

“This is not a person that we can allow to escape, because he is just too much of a threat to the community,” Pruitt said.
