FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The burden of student loan debt presents a major challenge to the U.S. economy.

According to a new survey by Bankrate, it’s forced more than half of millennials to delay a major life event.

However, they’re not the only generation that’s been harmed. Analysts say the problem is affecting Americans of all ages, and having to put off buying a home, or saving for retirement, negatively impacts the overall economy.

More than half of student loan recipients say they didn’t receive enough information, about the risks associated with them.

The crisis has sparked a national debate, over whether alternative educational paths should be promoted.
