The Madera County District Attorney says a juvenile boy is now believed to have sparked the Willow Fire. It is still burning near Bass Lake.
DA David Linn says the boy’s family initially tried to put out the fire, but failed. And the location where it started was a cell phone dead zone, so they could not immediately call for help. Charges have not yet been filed.
According to the US Forest Service, the Willow Fire is now 30% percent contained. The blaze has charred 2,077 acres and still threatens 450 structures.
