An investigation is underway in North Fresno after a tree trimmer dies while on the job.
The 79 year-old man has been inside a steel basket – trimming trees at the Rio del Sol walnut farm, which shares a fence with the San Joachin Cintry Club.
The Sheriff’s Department got the call around 11:45am, July 27th.
Spokesperson Tony Botti says they believe he touched the line with the steel basket, which sparked a fire.
Two workers from the San Joaquin Country Club grabbed a hose and tried to put out the fire, but it was too late for the victim.
Fresno Fire Department Spokesperson Pete Martinez was on site and said even being 3-4 feet of a power line could cause the energy to jump.
PG&E and Cal OSHA are also looking into what’s being considered an industrial accident.
