FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — California gas prices have never risen more quickly than they did this past week.

According to GasBuddy.com, average prices have shot up 70 cents a gallon in some regions, and could rise even further.

Here in Fresno, we’re paying around $3.50.

The previous record was seen in October of 2012, after the Chevron refinery fire in Richmond.

Governor Jerry Brown issued waivers, allowing imports of gas from other states, but he has yet to do the same in this situation.

California fuel prices are among the nation highest, due in part to a special, cleaner-burning blend.

However, activists, such as Consumer Watchdog, allege that oil companies are manipulating the market.

Some state lawmakers agree, and are calling for investigations.
