Assemblymember Henry T. Perea’s (D-Fresno) Assembly Bill (AB) 857 passed the Senate Environmental Quality with bipartisan support Wednesday.

AB 857 would expand incentives to support deployment of clean and low carbon heavy-duty vehicles involved in goods movement, which can provide an immediate and cost-effective solution to reduce emissions to improve air quality and public health. This bill would also support a transition to low carbon transportation technologies to address climate change over the long-term.

“The Clean Truck Act would make it easier for truckers to offset upfront costs by increasing funding for the deployment of zero- emission and near-zero emission heavy-duty trucks,” said Assemblymember Perea.

“This will lead to growth in the clean alternative fuel truck market and stimulate investments in the next generation of lower emission truck technologies, which will produce cleaner air and health benefits.”

AB 857 now moves on to Senate Appropriations.
