The House Agriculture Committee approval of the GMO labeling standard now goes to the full House.
With their action, this is the first time that a committee has taken action on the Safe and Affordable Food Labeling Act.
The act was introduced by Kansas Representative Mike Pompeo last Congress and includes science-based labeling standard for foods made with genetically modified organisms, as well as for GMO-free foods.
The House Energy and Commerce Committee has joint jurisdiction with Agriculture on the bill, but AgriPulse reports it’s possible that the panel could waive its right to consider the measure.
