Purdue Farms is raising more than half its chickens without any kind of antibiotics and also announced a new ad campaign on the company’s progress of reducing antibiotic use in poultry.

The east coast based company says in the past year it has decreased the percentage of its chicken flocks receiving animal-only antibiotics to 42%  from 60%.

The company last September eliminated the use of human antibiotics from eggs in the hatchery and from feed for growth promotion.

It said 96 percent of its flocks never require treatment with a human antibiotic, and it is focused on reducing the use of animal-only antibiotics as well.
