FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Saying “we’re on a titanic unless we turn,” Governor Jerry Brown will travel to the Vatican later month, to meet with Pope Francis.

Brown, who for a time attended a seminary, will join Francis in calling for the world to face the threats of climate change, and human exploitation.

The Vatican’s Pontifical Academy of Sciences calls the climate change crisis and the new forms of slavery, “emergencies that are related in different ways.”

Brown was the keynote speaker at a climate summit in Toronto, earlier this week.

He’s signed several non-binding agreements with other states and sub-national governments, aiming to put pressure on global leaders ahead of a summit in Paris this December.
