CLOVIS (KMJ) — The Central Valley Honor Flight has been given a big donation today to ensure they have the funds to keep flying veterans to our nations capitol.
A $10,000 check was given to the group to help pay for future flights. The money came from the Central Valley Tea Party and was presented at a ceremony inside the Clovis Veterans Memorial District building. Past veterans were there too to see the big handover.
The means of raising money was unique for the Central Valley Tea Party. They put together a ‘Celebration of Liberty Event’, which saw 400 people enjoying an evening of dining, dancing and entertainment.
“We’re a very patriotic group to begin with”, says Head Coordinator of the Central Valley Tea Party and Fresno City Councilman Steve Brandau . “All the things that we get involved in are for the benefit of our city, county, state, and country. But the foundation of all of those things are the veterans that we stand upon their shoulders”.
“To sit back and hold a dinner dance and play cards and have fun and have an auction, with alll of those proceeds going to the Honor Flight. It was an amazing night. We had hundreds and hundreds of people participating and that’s because they want to give back to our veterans”.
Since forming in 2013, the Central Valley Honor Flight has raised over a $1 million to send nearly 500 local veterans to see their memorial in Washington D.C.. Their next Honor Flight is scheduled to leave Castle Airport in October.
