FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Drug overdoses are the primary cause of injury-related deaths in 36 states.

But, California ranks 9th in the nation, for the lowest number of drug overdose deaths, with fewer than 11 per 100,000 residents.

The state met 7 of the 10 key injury prevention indicators, in a new report by Trust for America’s Health.

However, California fell short in the areas of prescription drug monitoring, and mandatory ignition interlocks for convicted drunk drivers.
