FRESNO (KMJ) — A self-confessed gang member who attempted to use the ‘finders keepers’ rule with police is now behind bars.
Officers say the call came Tuesday morning close to the intersection of Cedar and Ventura in Fresno. A witness described a man and a woman arguing and the man had a gun in his waistband.
The man was identified as Ernesto Ojeda of Chula Vista. He didn’t have the gun on him anymore, but it was found inside a bag in a trash can a few yards away alongside other things with his name on them.
Police say during the investigation, Ojeda asked if he could have the gun back when court proceedings were over. “I found it and it was finders keepers”, he told officers.
Ojeda is now behind bars at Fresno County Jail on various weapons charges including possession of a loaded firearm.
