Merced City manager Bramble announces retirement
Merced City Manager John Bramble has announced his retirement effective Dec. 5. Bramble, 69, was hired seven years ago when the City was facing the challenges of the recession.
“I have enjoyed my career serving the public for 45 years, but now it is time to spend more time serving my family,” he said.
“Reflecting back, I believe I have had an opportunity to make a difference in the community in a positive way,” he said. Among the major accomplishments during his tenure was the completion of the G Street underpass, the wastewater treatment plant expansion, the widening of Cooper Avenue and Highway 59 and the renovation of the Merced Theatre.
“We have achieved a great deal in terms of budgeting, financial planning, greater governmental transparency, strides toward a more sustainable environment and intergovernmental cooperation and collaboration,” he said.
“I am leaving as the City is coming out of the recession. It’s a positive sign we are able to put personnel back to our ranks. We are adding police officers, firefighters and a dispatcher, which responds to our most critical community needs,” he said.
“I want to thank the people of this community for all of the support they have given me, and all of the hard work they have devoted to the City of Merced to make it a better place, a more vibrant economy and to help make its future brighter. “
Bramble and his wife, JoAnn, plan to remain in Merced.
