As the Greyhound Bus crash case gets a new trial, one lawyer involved in the case offers his insight.

The judge says the jury got it wrong in the Greyhound Bus Crash Trial that wrapped up in March – and he granted a new trial

Attorney Stuart Chandler spoke to KMJ: “There are a various grounds on which a plantiff can request a new trial.”

Weeks ago, Chandler, who represented some of the families had asked for the judge to rule for a new trial.

“Under those grounds, if the the jury clearly should have reached a different verdict, the judge has the responsibility to weigh the evidence, after making that assessment, the jury clearly should have reached a different verdict, then it’s his responsibility to make an order granting a new trial.” – Stuart Chandler, Plaintiff Attorney.

Greyhound has spent over half a million dollars in expenses, and Cyhandler says they could come after the families for those costs.

Chandler’s client Stephanie Cordova’s family agreed to drop the case, as did Vanessa Gonzales’ dad, but the parents are divorced and Vanessa’s Mom Emily Moreno said “no” and decided to carry on.

Its up to greyhound if they are going to file an appeal.

Next, would be a hearing to set a new trial date – chandler thinks that would be sometime next year.
