“Beam Signing” Takes Place At Fresno County Historical Musuem

FRESNO (KMJ)– Construction on a museum which will house everything that makes Fresno County unique is progressing well down at Fresno Fairground, and a whose who of officials from across the valley were there Tuesday morning for a special “beam signing”.

The new Fresno County Historical Museum is being built on the edge of the Fresno Fairground site.  The beam signing celebrated how far construction has gotten up to now, with Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims and Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer amongst those signing their names.

“The outpouring of community support in connections formed and discoveries made has been incredible”, says CEO John Alkire. “With every new person I have met comes a new connection to a bit of Fresno County’s history”.

The 14,000 square foot building that will house the museum is currently under construction and will open at the same time as the fair this October.

“When you start talking about the heritage of Fresno County and the artifacts of Fresno County we wanted to invite everybody out that’s a part of our team and folks that are going to be coming in to assist us to sign this beam and kick this off”.

Once built, the museum will house artifacts from Fresno’s past, including a 1913 Fire Truck, a hand pump from 1878, the Mars Drive In sign from 1947, and of course the cupola that was taken down with the only Fresno County Courthouse in the 1960s.
