United States Wins WTO Case Against India

The World Trade Organization found in favor again of the United States in its challenge of India’s bans on a number of agricultural products, including American poultry.

USDA Deputy Under Secretary Alexis Taylor says India was arbitrarily putting the bans in place with no scientific evidence behind the bans.

Taylor says the WTO found India had some of the same problems in their own country and discriminated against U.S. products.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack says this decision was a win for the United States.

Whether through a trade agreement or the WTO, Vilsack says the U.S. has always been consistent in the approach that it’s important and necessary for any requirement placed on exports to be consistent with sound science and international regulations.
