FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Mayor Joshua Mitchell is departing, 6 months after a 3-member council majority sought to oust Sanger City Manger Brian Haddix.
The members are accused of engaging racism, after a letter surfaced, alleging that Mitchell and Haddix didn’t hire enough minorities.
Haddix is now in Chowchilla, and Mitchell says he “feels like a quitter,” but has no alternative, citing threats to his family’s safety.
“I’ve had to move my wife out of the City of Sanger,” Mitchell tells KMJ.
No stranger to controversy, Mitchell is being investigated by the California Fair Political Practices Commission.
Mitchell says, “What they’re currently looking into, is whether I’ve set all these straw men to accept all these bribes and whether staff has done the same thing.”
However, he says “There’s no one that’s going to arrest me any time soon.”
Mitchell intents to spend more time with his wife and 6 children, and says he has no plans to run for higher office.
