Valley Man Marks Half A Century Selling Cars

David Coquillette

FRESNO (KMJ) — A Fresno man is celebrating his 50th anniversary as a car salesman. He started selling Pontiacs in 1965 and he has no intentions of stopping any time soon.

The Department of Labor says the average American stays in their jobs for four years. David Coquillette has been selling cars for more than ten times that. He used to work in finance – and was transferred from Chicago to Fresno in 1963. in 1965 he decided to switch to car sales to get a bigger paycheck.

“Having never sold a car I didn’t know if I could or not. But I thought I’d give it the old college try and found out I could do a pretty good job. Knowing the business from the inside out made that all easy for me. I knew what was needed to make a deal happen”.

“I enjoy it immensely. I love to get up and go to work because every day is a new day”.

June marks 50 years since that career move and in that time he’s sold cars for Ferrari, Rolls Royce, Porsche, and Cadillac. He says every person he meets has a different set of circumstances and that’s the force that’s driving his enthusiasm.
