FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The California Senate has approved raising the minimum wage to $11 hour next year, and $13 by 2017.

The legislation also calls for annual increases, beginning in 2019, based on inflation.

Its author, Senator Mark Leno, says more needs to be done to address the fact that wages are growing at the slowest rate in American history, relative to corporate profits.

The bill now heads to the Assembly.
