By a vote of 62 to 38, the Senate invoked cloture to begin debate on trade promotion authority legislation.
The motion allows 30-hours of debate on an amendment to extend the charter of the Export-Import Bank.
Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden says the vote shows the U.S. Senate is ready to turn the page on the trade policy of the 90s.
Wyden says the legislation ensures new transparency for all trade deals and he is working to ensure the Senate votes on as many amendments as possible and passes TPA into law.
