FIREBAUGH (KMJ) — A man is being sought in connection with a homicide in Firebaugh – but Fresno County Sheriff’s Detectives say he’s only wanted for questioning. It’s after a body was found by the side of the road south of Dos Palos.

Deputies are eager to speak to Francisco Zermeno, who’s believed to be a friend of the victim. His whereabouts are unknown, but the 25 year old has family in Washington state and Mexico. He’s described as being 5’8”, 180 lbs. with brown eyes, short black hair and a goatee.

Officials warn he might be armed, so the public shouldn’t approach him but contact the Sheriff’s Detective Adam Maldonado at (559) 231-6944 or Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP (7867).

It was early Thursday morning when a man found by the side of the road with a gunshot wound. It was close to the intersection of Russell and Main Street, 15 miles out of Firebaugh.

“The area in which this crime happened is a very large piece of agricultural property”, says Fresno County Sheriff’s Department’s Tony Botti. “There’s different buildings and there’s cars parked on it. Detectives have their work cut out for them”.

It’s still not known who shot the man and no motive has been established. Detectives are in the process of identifying possible suspects but maintain the Zermeno is only wanted for questioning.
