FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The Golden State in undoubtedly the biggest victim of a prolonged drought.

But according to the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, the snowpack isn’t just low, it’s gone, across virtually all of the west.

With few exceptions, this year’s snowmelt streamflow has already occurred.

The snowpack at most stations has been at or near the lowest on record.

Hydrologists say several months of unusually warm temperatures hindered its growth, and sped up its melt, creating another year of devastatingly dry conditions.
