U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack will meet with the G-20 agriculture ministers in Istanbul.

The meeting will focus on food waste, which Vilsack says is different in developed countries according to The Hagstrom Report.

Instead of the problem being foods consumers throw away, Vilsack says the problem is inefficient storage of foods and ingredients before they reach consumers.

Vilsack also will hold bilateral meetings with Canadian and Chinese ag ministers.

He plans to express U.S. frustrations to European Union officials with the EU’s recent decision for member countries to have the option to opt out of accepting genetically modified seed and ingredients deemed safe.
