FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) –A controversial bill authored by senators Ben Allen and Doctor Richard Pan, would end all personal-belief exemptions for childhood vaccination requirements.

The measure, which would allow exemptions only for medical conditions, cleared the California Assembly last week.

However, the American Civil Liberties Union disagrees with the approach. In a letter sent to Pan and Allen, the ACLU says that while students need to be vaccinated, a broad-brush approach that keeps kids out of school won’t solve any problems.

The lawmakers have yet to respond.
