Fresno County Unemployment Dips to 11.2%

(KMJ) Fresno County’s unemployment rate has dropped again.  According to new labor force data, the jobless rate in the Fresno County was 11.2 percent in March 2015, down from a revised 11.6 percent in February 2015.   This compares with an unadjusted unemployment rate of 6.5 percent for California and 5.6 percent for the nation during the same period.

Non-farm employment rose by 2,600 jobs (up 0.8 percent), while farm employment declined by 500 jobs (down 1.3 percent). Educational and health services posted the largest month-over gain with the addition of 1,200 jobs.
The national unemployment rate was unchanged at 5.5 percent.

California saw two-tenths of a percentage point drop in its unemployment rate from February as a result of payroll gains. The state says seven categories added jobs over the month with professional and business services posting the largest increase of 16,900 jobs.

The overall number of people unemployed was down in March and stands at 1.2 million.
