FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — It was less than 3 years ago, when California voters rejected a ballot initiative, that would have required special labels for genetically-engineered foods.

But opponents of such ingredients aren’t throwing in the towel just yet.

The LabelGMOs group is now pleading with supporters, to find a state lawmaker willing to carry their bill.

Time is running out, with Friday being the deadline to introduce new legislation.

GMOs have been blasted by nutritionists; but, biotech companies claim they’re safe for consumption.
