FRESNO (KMJ) — An eight year old girl has become the youngest person to file for a business name with Fresno County – and now she's taking her love of reading to the next level.
Danay Ferguson has rooted her business in books – and eventually wants to become a librarian.
"Reading makes me learn new things at the end of a book and it also gets me inspired," she told our news partner KMPH Fox 26 News.
Her collection has grown to more than a thousand – and she told her father she wants to open a book store.
“She wanted to collect 100 million—but her mother and I said that's probably not gonna happen,” says Dwayne Ferguson, Danay's father.
"She wakes up and reads, she reads in a car, stoplight, she falls asleep with a book in her hand."
She told her father she wanted to start her own business – so father and daughter went to Fresno County Clerk's office to set it all up.
Officials there say she's the youngest person to file for a business name in Fresno County.
She named her company 'Reading Heart' – and Danay is getting help from the Ronald McDonald house to further her business.
Her next goal is to start donating books to the kids inside valley children's hospital – starting February 16th.
"When I was thinking about the kids in the hospital they sometimes get bored, but when they get a book, they could also use their imagination,” she says.
Danay is accepting donations of books and money to buy more books. If you'd like to donate – the link to her website is here.
