The death of a young girl found stuck between metal bars on her window has been ruled an accident by Fresno County Sheriff's Department.
Four year old Estefania Duque was being raised by her grandparents on an acre ranch south of Fresno.
She died Sunday afternoon after getting stuck between the security bars outside her window.
Her uncle – Miguel Duque – was babysitting her at the time.
"It is a tragedy, there is no other way to put it".
He says her grandparents were out running errands – and she wanted to go with them. When she was told she couldn't – she threw a tantrum.
Miguel says he put Estefania in her bedroom to calm down.
“I kept checking on her, she was still throwing tantrums, crying. Suddenly, the crying stopped. I thought she was asleep."
Instead – Sheriff's Detectives say she likely opened a window and tried to get out – getting her head stuck between the bars – and choking herself.
When her family found her found she was rushed to the hospital – but she was later pronounced dead.
The family are now raising money for funeral expenses. a link to their GoFundMe page can be found here.
