SAN FRANCISCO (Courtesy of KMJ's News Partner – CBS 5 San Francisco) — Three armed robbers wearing ski masks have staged a daring raid on a bank in San Francisco – at 2.30 this morning.
Witnesses say the three thieves ploughed their SUV through the two thick glass doors protecting the front of the Wells Fargo bank – in the heart of the city's financial district.
Police say they were going for gold rush era gold nuggets on display at the very front of the bank – which also doubles as a museum.
Wells Fargo spokesman Ruben Pulido said the company is grateful that no one was hurt and that the museum’s historic stagecoaches went undamaged during the robbery.
Paulido said the company is cooperating with the police department’s investigation and that the museum will reopen so it can serve the thousands of people that visit each year.
No one was hurt in the raid – this witness saw the whole thing:
"Every day I see people going in and out. Especially the kids coming to see museum pieces and stuff like that. It's shocking that something like this would have happened".
Officers say the robbers got away with between four and ten ounces of gold nuggets – worth up to $12,000.
