Teacher Arrested for Allegedly Inappropriately Touching Students

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — A local teacher is in trouble with the law for suspected lewd acts with a number of female students.

More than a year after allegedly touching six 8th grade female students, Victor Gomez, 39, was arrested Tuesday and has since posted bail.

Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims said Gomez was working as a teacher at American Union Elementary School, near Easton, when the incidents occurred.

"The acts involved Gomez making inappropriate comments to the girls and touching various parts on the outside of their clothes," Mims said.

She said the sexual acts happened between August 2013 and March of last year, however, Mims said the girls did not report the behavior until April.

"As you can imagine, it's not easy for a girl this age to come forward and report something like this, and they showed an inordinate amount of courage by doing so and I commend them for it."

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this case to call the Sheriff's Office at 600-3111 or Crime Stoppers at 498-STOP.
