Student’s Vision Realized With Flag Pole Dedication

FRESNO (KMJ) — A special needs student's vision to better respect the American flag has been realized.

Gerard Muscat joined United Cerebral Palsy in Fresno five years ago – and brought with him a U.S. flag. But the only flagpole the center had was a little one of the side of the building.

He wanted to display Old Glory properly – so staff there asked for pledges to help pay for a full size flagpole. The new addition was unveiled on Wednesday.

"That small pole hanging on the side of the building just wasn't enough respect for our flag", says the Executive Director Jeffrey Snyder. "We thought old glory had to be shown off a better way".

Fresno County Sheriff's Department took part in the dedication. Snyder says that made the day all the more significant.

"We are so incredibly honored that Sheriff Mims and Fresno County Sheriff's Honor Guard could participate today".

Pledges came from across the state – and even as far away as Virginia and Scotland – to make sure Gerard's dream came true.
