City Council Votes To Ban CCWs At City Hall & City Owned Buildings

FRESNO,CA(KMJ)- A contentious morning at City Hall on Thursday as City Council voted 6-1 to ban concealed weapons at City Hall and other city owned buildings.

The ordinance brought forth by Mayor Lee Brand, came after metal detectors and restricted access to the public were added to City Hall.

Police Chief Andy Hall expressed his support for the Mayors’ ordinance saying “Is it perfect? Of course not. But I think it’s a good balance between security and efficiency.”

Councilman Garry Bredefeld, the lone councilmember to vote “no” on the ordinance, squared off with his peers as he presented his firm opposition to the proposed security measures. Saying “the building has not changed, the danger has not changed, in summation this is an effort to disarm law abiding citizens who’ve done nothing wrong.”
