FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Central Valley students join others around the world Friday, protesting what they say is government and business inaction on climate change.
Climate activists are taking part in a global general strike in what is expected to be the biggest day of climate demonstrations in the planet’s history.
Thousands of others marched to the capitol building for a rally in Washington D.C.
16-year-old Jayden Cole was with a group of students in Fresno, standing with signs at the corner at Palm and Barstow.
“I would like to teach people what is going on and nothing’s really impossible. We’re all one this is our home,” said Cole.
A Fresno Police car stopped by and told the students to be aware of traffic,and not get hit.
Cole, a Bullard High School junior spoke about the reaction he received by motorists.
“I’m definitely getting more smiles, more honks, more cheers, more thumbs up, you know. I was dancing to the music of one of the cars, they were absolutely loving it. Some people on the other hand, they don’t like it. They’ll give me a thumbs down, they’ll say it’s not real,” said Cole.
The global climate strike is taking place ahead of the UN’s Climate Action Summit during next week’s General Assembly in New York.
A second worldwide strike is planned for September 27.
