FRESNO, CA (KMJ) — Two gang members have been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting in Fresno.
Police Chief Jerry Dyer said the victim had called 9-1-1 just before 3:00 a.m. to say that someone in his yard was trying to break in to his house on the 3000 block of East Nevada.
Dyer said the caller put the phone down to check outside but never returned, then Fresno PD’s Shotspotter registered gunfire shortly after that another call to 911 came in.
The caller said two of his nephews had come to the house to say their father had been shot.
Responding officers found 30-year-old Ricky Brogdon, lying near the door, shot in the head.
He was still alive when he was rushed to the hospital but later died at CRMC.
Dyer said Brogdon’s two children were home at the time.
Speaking to the media on Thursday morning, Lt Mark Hudson said a short time later, CHP pulled over a car on Highway 180 near Cedar.
Lt. Hudson says a rifle and other evidence was found during a search of the car.
Police say the two suspects in the car were arrested in connection with the shooting and were being questioned by police.
Chief Dyer said they learned that one suspect lives in the area and knew the victim, and that they got into a fight.
Just 15 minutes after the crime, Dyer said CHP made the arrest of the two men in their vehicle on the 180.
Police arrested an 18 year old and a 22 year old, who also faces charges of attempted murder and 2 counts of attempted robbery of a commercial business for crimes back on August 8.
